The 1stAquagamete Training School intends to provide advanced training on emerging aspects of cryopreservation for young researchers and industry representatives. The course will be focused on Techniques for Fish Germline Cryobanking, integrating aspects of different expertise and covering topics in theoretical lectures and practical classes.
Cryopreservation is an important tool in fish reproduction not only from a productive point of view, but also for the conservation of genetic resources, and is currently considered a powerful tool in assisted reproductive strategies. Its potential applications in fish reproductive biotechnology have recently opened new research lines related to aquaculture and conservation.
Therefore our main goal is to provide training activities on cryopreservation procedures for several types of germ cells, giving knowledge on techniques for germ cell preparation for cryobanking (eg: in model species, endangered or problematic species from a reproductive point of view) and training students on standardization of procedures and reporting.
The students will have the opportunity to learn not only basic concepts and techniques for germline cryopreservation but also several techniques on post-thaw quality evaluation and on germline biotechnological applications. The 1st AQUAGAMETE Training School will highlight the most recent developments in each topic, promoting a strong interaction between trainees and experienced trainers working in different aspects related to germline cryobanking.
